Triton Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita triton) returns to the wild

Triton Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita triton) returns to the wild.We at Araproject always like to hear about parrots finding there freedom and readapting to a live in the wild. Here is a small story brought to us by Stewart Metz of the Indonesian Parrot Project:

This is a wild Triton Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita triton) which was caught and given as an unwanted gift to the members of a tiny village on Gam Island in West Papua. They had learned about conservation and humane treatment from us, so they released the cockatoo who flies around merrily, often landing on a very tall post next to their hut as shown here. However he only returns to the people for food handouts and skritches.

Looks like a parrot well on its way back to a live in the wild! It shows what education can do for conservation.
