Francis Hall and his sons, Sam, 18, and Trevor, 40, were asleep when the blaze began in the kitchen of their home in Fair Oak, Hants, at 6.25am on Sunday.
They were woken by Bob, the three-year-old African grey parrot, whose squawking became frantic, as the flames spread to the living room.
The trio escaped the burning property, grabbing the bird's cage as they fled to the garden.
All three suffered smoke inhalation, while the parrot survived unscathed.
Sam Hall, 18, who was the only member of the family with his door open, said: "I used to find Bob very annoying with his growling and squawking, but not now.
"He saved our lives. We just got out in time.
"As soon as we got outside the windows blew out and the fire took over the whole house."
Mr Hall, 59, who is divorced, added that he may now reward the bird with a female companion.
"I am definitely going to get him a treat, some new toys, a swing, a bell and a mirror.
"It might be the right time to get him a mate. I have been thinking about an outdoor cage.
"Now the house is being re-done, this might be the time to do it."
The blaze is believed to have started in the microwave.
