Red-tailed Black Cockatoo. Image by AndyVictorian food producer Rocky Lamattina and Sons has been fined more than $220,000 for breaching national environmental laws in South Australia.

The company cleared 170 trees on its property north of Naracoorte in 2004 and 2005.

The trees were deemed to be a likely nesting habitat for the endangered south-eastern red-tailed black cockatoo.

The Federal Court ordered the company to pay costs on top of the fine and regarded the company's conduct as a serious breach.
