Animal conservation groups say the State Government is not doing enough to protect Western Australia's endangered black cockatoo.
The carnaby's, baudin's and forest red-tailed black cockatoo species are only found in the south of WA - numbers have halved in the past 50 years, mainly due to clearing of native bushland.
Katherine Howard from the World Wildlife Fund says the Government needs to reassess the way it allocates land for clearing and development.
She says thousands of people have voiced their concern.
"We've had over 4,200 signatures from people who are really concerned about the fact that our three local black cockatoo species are all threatened with extinction largely due to habitat destruction and fragmentation," she said.
"We don't want to see that happen and we don't think it has to happen, we think there can be ways to prevent that."
