CORELLAS will continue to be shot in Old Noarlunga for the next month.
A bid to end Onkaparinga Council’s corella management program early was voted down at a council meeting last night (Tuesday, March 20).
The program, which includes shooting up to 200 of the birds, will now continue into April.
Cr Don Chapman, who called for the program to end now, said it was “ineffective” and a waste of money.
“We could save $20,000 if we abandon the program,” he said.
But Cr Wayne Olsen said the program needed to be finished to evaluate it properly.
The debate follows a heated public forum earlier this month where frustrated residents told the council the program was not working and they were fearful people would take culling corellas into their own hands.
