Regent Parrot (Polytelis anthopeplus) Gluepot Reserve, South Australia, Australia. A program monitoring the regent parrot along the River Murray will this year shift its focus.

Volunteers have previously monitored the birds at 10 breeding sites along the river.

However, the chairman of the Regent Parrot Recovery Team, Kevin Smith, says it is now believed the birds may change their nesting sites.

He says volunteers will focus on a 20-kilometre stretch of river during the upcoming breeding season.

"The area is clearly defined by the Cadell ferry and upstream to lock two and we're looking at that section of the river where there are a couple of really good breeding colonies but we don't know a lot about some of the other areas around there," he said.
