The shipment included three Macaws and 10 African Greys, Jaco Pieterse, manager of the special projects unit, said.
“The birds were confiscated from the South African Airways domestic cargo section under a warrant issued by Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court in terms of the Animals Protection Act.
“The NSPCA Special Projects Unit conducts regular inspections at the various cargo houses at OR Tambo International Airport to ensure animals are transported humanely and that animal protection legislation is complied with,” he said.
