The Glossy Black-Cockatoo is listed as a threatened species in Queensland and the eastern subspecies Calyptorhynchus lathami lathami is distributed throughout south-eastern Queensland (SEQ). The status of the SEQ population is difficult to determine as the species is cryptic in its behaviour and use of natural habitats such that despite a number of agencies maintaining databases for many years there is still little knowledge of the estimated population size and distribution of the species in the region.

A kea playground has been set up to stop them from damaging equipment at a logging site.A kea playground is being trialled at a logging site in St Arnaud in a bid to keep the cheeky parrots entertained and stop them from damaging equipment.

Monk Parakeets get their name from the distinctive cowl over their heads. They're also known as "Quaker Parrots." Kevin BurgioKevin Burgio remembered the first time he saw monk parakeets. He was out bird watching "and I ran across this puddle that had like five or six monk parakeets drinking from it," he said. "I'm like, 'What the hell is that?' Did someone lose like five parrots? I didn't know there were parrots here."

Turquoise Parrot found in the Yass Valley

The 'vulnerable' Turqouise Parrot was spotted in the Yass Valley recently. Sighted in the Yass Valley, nesting in the hollows of a eucalyptus tree hundreds of years old, were three Turquoise Parrots.
