Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 5:16 Coco the Hyacinth macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus), one of the last males of his species in Paraguay, has had a rough start. Since his birth nine years ago he has been captured from the wild by illegal parrot traders, rescued, placed into Paraguay’s Asunción Zoo, and then stolen from there—a crime that turned him into such a media celebrity that the thieves could not sell him and decided to set him free.

Kashmir Csaky dances with her hyacinth macaw, Gucci, who recently placed fourth in a national bird dancing competition.Kashmir Csaky started singing “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” as she danced in front of the large blue parrot standing on his perch.
Gucci, a hyacinth macaw, studied her for a moment and then began to dance, swaying in time with her music. He’d pause as the song tapered off, then continue his rhythmic bopping.
