Surabaya Police Confiscate Rare Birds

Image by WayanHenri Jakarta: East Java police and animal rights organisation confiscated 40 rare birds from a house in Surabaya and arrested a suspected animal trader.
About 30 yellow-crested cockatoo (Cacatua Sulphurea) and 10 purple-naped lories (Lorius Domicella) were found in a house in Semampir area, Surabaya, a spokesman for Pro Fauna, Tri Prayudhi, said during the raid.
One trader suspect was arrested and police said one other was being hunted. Tri said the birds were sent from Ambon (Maluku Province) and Papua, worth hundreds of millions of rupiah.
