Santo Domingo.- Environment Ministry inspectors have seized more than 40 parrots in the last few weeks, which will be returned to the wild in the next days, after being confiscated from people trying to sell them.
In a statement the Zoo said it currently protects them and undergo a process of readjustment and recovery via the Hispaniola Parrots (Amazona ventralis) and Parakeets Recovery Program, the first of its nature in the country.
It said the recovery program of the parrots seized by Environment is designed to return them to their natural habitat and halt their sale, penalized by Law.
Recently the Zoo denounced that people as yet unidentified caused the deaths of a group of Hispaniola owls, also on the endangered species list.
