PRF seizes more than 300 baby parrots in SP

Federal highway police seized 336 baby parrots that were transported without lisence. The parrots were stowed away in boxes in the trunk and the rear seat of a vehicle. The incedince took place 11am on Tuesday at km 338 of Transbrasiliana highway (BR-153 ) in Ourimbah, São Paulo.
Asked about the birds, the occupants of the car reported that they had left the city of Ivinhema in Mato Grosso do Sul, bound for the capital city. Selling price of each baby parrot would be $ 50.00 to the dealer and about $ 300.00 at retail.
Individuals were caught in the act and sent to the Civil police station.
The birds were sent to the Association for Protection of Wild Animals in the region of Assisi, also in Sao Paulo.
