Cops nab three smugglers, recover 300 parrots
KANPUR: Kalyanpur police, on Tuesday morning, nabbed three persons and recovered as many as 300 parrots from their possession. Health of many parrots had deteriorated. The smugglers had captivated the parrots in cages and had brought them to the city to sell them in local market.
According to station house officer, Kalyanpur police station, Anand Mishra parrots had been brought from Shahjahanpur. He said many parrots, who were in good health condition, were released while some of the parrots were taken by the bird lovers and remaining have been handed over to Kanpur zoo where they are being treated now.
Acting on the tip-off, the Kalyanpur police nabbed the three smugglers from Sarai Crossing while they were taking caged parrots to local market in a four wheeler. The police checked the vehicle and recovered parrots in a large number.
On being interrogated the smugglers revealed their identity and said these parrots had been brought from Shahjahanpur. The three have been identified as Roshan, Mohd Raju and Govind Pal. The Kalyanpur police has lodged an FIR in this connection and have sent the three accused to jail.
The police informed that the healthy parrots had been released and the weak ones have been handed over to zoo for treatment.
According to the bird lovers, parrots are very delicate specie of birds and if they are not given water for a long time, they dehydrate and become weak. When the parrots are to be transported from one place to another, then they are stuffed inside the cages due to which they receive injuries and many of them die.
