Five poachers jailed; birds, turtles seized
A mobile court sentenced five poachers to three months' imprisonment each in Sirajganj district on Tuesday.
They are Md Lavu Sheikh, 20, Bashidkole village in Solonga upazila, Abdul Momin, 35, of Mirpur village, Md Jamil, 28, of Chuniahati village, Md Khokon Sheikh, 32, of Ekdala village in Sirajganj and Nazrul Islam, 26, of Kapasia village in Sherpur district.
The court, led by executive magistrate Md Sujauddoula, assisted by the officials of Rajshahi divisional wild animal and nature protecting office raided different areas in Chalan Beel region under the district in the afternoon and arrested the five along with 28 birds and animals kept for sale in shops in the areas.
During the drive, they seized 15 parrots, nine Munia birds, two doves, and two turtles from the possession of the convicts, said the magistrate.
According to an act of 2012, it is strictly prohibited to catch, store or sale of wild animals, he said.
