Woman arrested with 60 parrot eggs

Portugal - Police arrested a woman in possession of 60 eggs of a parrot species originating from Brazil.
She is suspected of being involved in a ring smuggling protected species of animals.
The eggs, belonging to the Short-tailed Parrot species (Graydidascalus brachyurus), are said to be worth €60,000 on the market. This species of bird is listed in the CITES Convention (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species).
At the time of going to press on Wednesday, the circumstances surrounding the woman’s detention had not been disclosed by the police authorities.
